Biography
Jodi grew up in East London with her parents and sister. Her dad, George, worked as a taxi driver to support his family.
Already from a very young age, Jodi copied singers and dancers from TV.
At the age of 8 Jodi entered a talent competition at Pontins holiday camp, where mothers dress up their girls and put make-up on them. Jodi won the competition!
When Jodi was 10, she wanted to go to stage school. She wanted to learn more about performing, acting & singing. Her parents thought it was only for rich kids, cause they couldn’t afford it. When they saw how sad Jodi was, they remotgaged the house so she could get into Syliva Young Theatre School, like former Spice Girl member Emma Bunto and singer Billie Piper.
At age of 14 her mum, Eileen, took Jodi to singing classes. A year later, her teacher told her of an audition for a new girl band who searched for a fifth member. George took his daughter to the audition and was very surprised when she got hired without a singing note.
So Jodi joined Anika, Nikki, Linzi and Michelle in the girl band called Girl Thing.
They released an album called “Girl Thing” and they got a top ten hit in the UK with “Last One Standing”.
Already two years later the band split, Jodi wanted to get out and study her profession a bit more, cause she was only 17 years old.
In 2002, two years of the band’s split, Jodi was chosen to play the role Debbie Dean in the TV soap Hollyoaks. This becomes a big step into her new career. In 2003 Jodi hooks up with Westlife hunk, Kian Egan, and they become the hot new couple of britain. They first show themselves together at Nicky Byrne’s, Westlife, wedding in 2003. Jodi also got voted as FHM’s Sexiest Soap star of 2003.
At the end of 2004 Jodi quits her charactor as Debbie Dean to try something different, she gets a job in a new reality show called ‘California Dreaming’ but only half through Jodi decides to go back home to Britain due to the sudden death of one of her friends.In the next few months after California Dreaming , Jodi’s career seemed to take a backseat as her blooming romance with Kian escalated with rumours of their pending marriage but all these tabloid gossips were vehemently denied by the couple themselves.
Voted as the Sexiest Female at the British Soap Awards in 2005 has once again catapulted Jodi in the limelight and open up more projects for the beautiful actress. Aside from various magazine covers, she landed a coveted role in a short-lived comedy series called Respectable.
Playing the role of a lovable prostitute named Hayley, Jodi has shown another aspect of her acting talent, albeit scantily clad in most scenes, she nonetheless played her role convincingly.
After a few TV guestings on several British soap, the biggest break of her career in 2006 came in the form of a leading lady in the teen comedy film POPCORN.
Sharing top billing with actor Jack Ryder, Jodi plays the role of a cinema attendant named Suki. Sadly, the movie which was shown in local cinemas in the UK in April 2007 garnered a lackluster result in the box office.
However, this unfortunate incident did not dampen Jodi’s star potential, she is currently in talks with movie producers for future projects and even a pivotal role in a Hollywood film is in the works!
Kian Egan finally popped the question Christmas morning 2007 and who could have guess other than Jodi said yes! The couple did an exclussive interview and photoshoot with OK! Magazine in Paris – talking openly about their relationship, the proposale and the future.
During the summer of 2008 Kian Egan joined Luis Walsh in finding 5 girls for the next big girl band. Already from day one rumours circulated that Jodi was going to be in the band, but Jodi had to audition like everybody else. In the end Jodi still got the part, now we’re just waiting to see if this is what is going to make or break Jodi’s career.
