+++ Move Over Jessie, It's My Turn To Be Sexiest Soap Star +++

STUNNING Hollyoaks actress Jodi Albert reckons it's time someone else won sexiest female soap star rather than Jessie Wallace. Andwho are we to argue? The 20-year old actress, who dates Westlife's Kian Egan, was voted FHM's Sexiest Soap star of 2003 for her role as Debbie Dean.

Jessie, who plays Kat Slater in EastEnders, won Inside Soap's sexiest female for the second year running last year.

Jodie said: 'Jessie Wallace always seems to win it perhaps this year there'll be a change. Being voted for by FHM readers was so flattering. It was amazing.

'I don't read too much into it and don't walk around thinking: 'I'm sexy'.

'Of course, I'd love to winan award like that on television, but FHM is a massive magazine, so it's amazing.'

And what does Kian, 23, think of her stripping for men's magazines?

She said: 'He doesn't get involved in my career. He'd never make any comments about what I should or shouldn't do.

'I'm quite headstrong and know what I want to do. He's supportive. 'And I'll keep doing shoots like that if they are done with a level of decency. It depends on the situation.'

The couple have been dating for eight months and while she's not interested in being the fourth Westlife wife, she does enjoy her time with Kian and spends it drumming.

She lives in Liverpool while working on Hollyoaks and he's based in London in a £1 million apartment.

And when she goes to the capital the pair spend the night wildly hitting skins of his drum kit. Jodi explained: 'I'm learning to play drums. I used to be a dancer so drumming attracts me as it's a cool instrument.

'I've always said that before I'm 25 I want to widen my talents by learning to play the drums, guitar and piano.

'I've got an electric drumkit at home. You put headphones on when you play or you can wire it up to the main speaker and play out loud.

'I've had a couple of lessons, but Kian plays really well, so heis teaching me right now.

'He's amazing he can play drums, guitar and piano really, really well.

'He's got a drumkit at his house so we tend to have a little play on that, which is great fun.'

Jodi isn't a novice when it comes to music, though. She was in Girl Thing when she was 15.The youngster, from Chingford, North East London, quit the Sylvia Young Theatre School to join the fledgling band with Nicola Stuart, Anika Bostelaar, Michelle Barber and Linzi Martin in 1999 andby 2000 they were hyped as the next Spice Girls especially as they'd been formed by the same father and-son duo Bob and Chris Herbert who discovered Posh &Co.

But despite a No. 8 placing for debut Last One Standing, their second release Girls OnTop, only managed No. 21.

And to make matters worse, the single earmarked for them by Pure and Simple went to the first Popstars winners band, Hear'Say.

At the time it was claimed Girl Thing had been dropped and that waswhy the single was given to Hear'Say.

Jodi disputes this. She said: 'I don't feel cheated about losing the record to Hear'Say I feel cheated about people saying wewere dropped.

'We split up before anything went wrong and that's why Hear'Say got the song. There wasno other reason. If we had wanted to release that as our third single I'm pretty sure Simon Cowell would have really fought for it, but within the band there were girls having problems so we decided to call it a day.'

For a start Linzi was pregnant not a good move for a young band whose fanbase was mainly under-10s.

One thing that did come out of Girl Thing was Jodi's meeting with Kian.

Because Simon Cowell was involved with Girl Thing and Westlife, she and Kian met. But as she was only 15 nothing came of it.

And it was only later when they bumped into each other quite by chance at the beginning of last year that the relationship developed.

THERE has been talk of Jodi teaming up with Westlife for a collaboration, which she laughs off although she does reveal that she and Kian may write songs together in the future.

She said: 'The story that I want to do a song with Westlife is rubbish, but of course if they wanted to doone with me I'd be only too happy.

'I have a massive passion for singing that follows me about and can't get rid of. But I don't want to be another soap star who brings out another record. If I go back I'd like to do it properly.

'In future, if I could balance both acting and singing. That would be the ideal world for me.

'I've been singing since I was 10 years old and I'm always jotting down songs and poems.

'Kian and I haven't written anything together yet, but we might sit down and write a song together for fun.

'I wouldn't let him use it as a Westlife song, though, if I couldn't perform it.'

Jodi claims she'd never go back to a manufactured band who are told what to wear, what songs to release and even what to say in interviews.

With musical influences ranging from Michael Jackson to Celine Dion she says she'd go into a band 'as long as it was music based'.

And if she can play drums, guitar and piano, who needs a band?

'Exactly,' she laughs, 'I could start up a Jodi Band.'

And don't for a moment think it will be pop only.

She and Kian went to heavy metal group Metallica's concert recently.

Jodi said: 'I didn't think I'd be into it, but when I was there I loved it. It was fantastic and Kian loved it, too.'

There were reports when Jodi and Kian hooked up that she had to change her mobile phone number eight times because of irate Westlife fans.

But Jodi claims the Irish band's fans have been lovely to her.

She said: 'This story just isn't true the Westlife fans have been really great to me. They've been so friendly and I've not had any bother at all from them.'

And what about the rumours that she and Kian will splice the knot sometime soon?

Again, it's a no-no.

She said: 'We're just really happy as we are at the moment -we've no plans for marriage. We're just enjoying being with each other.'

Jodi has been in Hollyoaks since September 2002 and has quickly become one of its star attractions.

She picked up 38 per cent of the vote in the survey for men's magazine FHM.

And with Hollyoaks going five nights a week, they'll get even more of a chance to see her.

Jodi admits that despite the show being on almost all week, her workrate hasn't shot up.

She said: 'It's good that there hasn't been a massive difference. I had sometime off after Christmas, but now it's picked up and my storyline is getting quite heavy.

'But they spread it out well. There's a lot of heartbreak for Debbie coming up.The next couple of months are very hard for Debbie because she's so in love with Dan and he's going through a lot.'

Dan is Dan Hunter, played by Andy McNair, who is a prime suspect in a murder investigation, after he refused to give a DNA sample.

For the moment, it seems Jodi is happy to act and do some wicked drumming on the side.

With the success of this year's I'm A Celebrity ... Get MeOut Of Here! could she be the second Westlife girl after Kerry McFadden to survive the jungle?

Jodi laughs: 'No, I don't think I would. I'm really focused onmy acting career right nowand enjoying being in Hollyoaks.'
