Though cynical tabloids labelled Jodi Alberts (Hollyoaks' Debbie Dean) fling with Westlife crooner Kian Egan a shameless publicity stunt, it seems that the hacks may soon be eating their words. The couple were recently snapped on a romantic holiday, enjoying themselves in tropical climes, and proving this soap/pop coupling is anything but phoney. The two first met years ago, when Jodi was part of the flop band Girl Thing, and their paths would often cross at pop roadshows and award ceremonies. Though Girl Thing are now a distant memory to Jodi, she remained in contact with heart-throb Kian, and their relationship was officially confirmed in June. "I know Jodi's not interested in me just because of Westlife, as I've known her so long," Kian said recently. "And when that happens, its really nice." Though the couple are keen to enjoy their fledgling affair, the recent troubles of ex-Eastender Jack Ryder and his wife Kym show just how tough soap star and pop star relationships can be. With Jodi busy on the Hollyoaks set, and Kian flying all over the world, here's hoping this pair can make it work.
